At work we have a terrible feral cat problem. We are located next to a Royal Farms convenience store which has trash dumpsters full of chicken, lunchmeat, hamburgers, hot dogs and I assume that is why they have come to live behind our office.
One morning a few months ago, a fluff ball of a kitten ran into the back of our office. He was little but ready to claw my arms and hands to shreds. I took him home, loved him and now he's the handsome striped kitty to the left.
So Remi wasn't lonely I went to the local cat rescue organization and adopted Leah. She is beautiful, so soft and has the sweetest disposition.
She is content to be held and cuddled all day. While Remi tolerates being held, he is more comfortable getting affection with his four feet firmly planted on the ground.
Remi and Leah stick together. They kind of have to because the roosters like to chase them. Especially Remi. The chickens have something against Remi. Maybe because he lays low in the grass, staring at them and they know he would love to have them for lunch.
And like my children, they can only stand to have their pictures taken for so long.
Notice the chicken in the background?
My next post I'll share some pictures of my chickens. All my life I wanted chickens, couldn't wait to have some of my own. I can spend hours just watching them.
My animals make me happy. On the days I'm feeling low, I spend extra time with them. I swear there is something therapeutic about the sound of a purring cat or the clucking of a happy chicken.
If I had my way, I would have some goats and lots more chickens. I would quit work, stay home, bake bread and take care of my animals.
Maybe someday.
